Work in progress for stripped down Google search for China

Google employees have discovered that Google is still working on a censored search engine for the Chinese market, reports The Intercept.

Three employees say they have found evidence in a source code that Google is still working on a custom search engine for China. This Chinese search engine was previously cited as Project Dragonfly.

At the end of 2018 it appeared that Google would have stopped the development of the censored search engine. The project received a lot of criticism from among others politicians, human rights organizations and employees of Google itself.

Now employees say that the development is still in full swing. Other sources report that the project may still be in the final phase. Employees should finish their tasks on Project Dragonfly and are then transferred to another part within the company.

Google says to the website Android Police “has no plans to release a search engine in China”. The company says that it does not work and that employees have been put on other projects.
