VW earmarks more funds for R&D in anticipation of Biden’s preferences

Volkswagen is going to have a larger share of the research budget to spend on the development of electric and self-driving cars. The German car maker’s battle with rival Tesla, which is currently leading in this field.

By 2025, approximately half of the research budget of a total of EUR 150 billion should be spent on the development of electric and self-driving cars. A year ago, EUR 60 billion was earmarked for this purpose.

Last week, Volkswagen-CEO Herbert Diess said that it would be better for the development of electric driving if Joe Biden were [likely] elected president of the United States. The US is an important market for the automaker and according to him, the Democratic program is expected to be more in line with Volkswagen’s global strategy.
