Volswagen states that outbreak-induced crisis is unprecedented

The corona crisis is unprecedented and will certainly have a negative effect on the activities of the German car group Volkswagen. A top executive of the company warned about this. Volkswagen has already announced that it will largely shut down production in Europe due to the outbreak of the virus.

Volkswagen’s chief financial officer Alexander Seitz said that everything is being done to ensure worker safety and stabilize things. Infections have already been detected at the company. How big the impact of the virus will eventually become is still difficult to estimate, says Seitz.

As of Thursday evening, most of Volkswagen’s European factories will close for at least ten days. The company also suffers from supply chain disruptions, putting pressure on production.
