The American automaker Tesla has filed charges against the Trump government. The maker of electric vehicles does not agree with the previously imposed import tariffs on products imported from China and wants his money back, including interest.
The case is before the American Court of International Trade in New York. The request made shall consist of an earlier order being declared unlawful. The American Trade Representative Robert Lightizer is named as the defendant in the case.
Previously, Tesla tried to obtain an exemption for the set rates of 25% on, among other things, Chinese-made screens. According to the automaker, Tesla was put at a price by that decision. In the final quarter of 2018 alone, the cost would be USD 50 million.
Tesla is certainly not the first company to challenge Trump’s and his previous decision before the US Court of International Trade. Because of the issue, hundreds of cases have already been filed. The Lightizer camp was not yet available for comment.
