The Italian competition authority has opened an investigation into Amazon. The webshop giant is said to have abused its dominant market position with special deals. The financial investigation service has invaded a number of subsidiaries of the American company to collect evidence.
Amazon would offer external sellers who offer their goods via Amazon if they also use logistics services from the tech company. For example, they would be better placed in the spotlight on the site, allowing them to sell more. According to the Italian market watchdog AGCM, that amounts to distortion of competition.
A European investigation is also underway against Amazon. This is about alleged misuse of sales data about competitors using the platform. The German cartel watchdog started its own investigation into Amazon in November following complaints from third parties using the platform.
