Inflation in Ireland fell on a monthly basis in December for the first time in almost a year. The annual figure thus came to 8.2%, against 8.9% a month earlier, data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed on Tuesday.
On a monthly basis, prices were 0.2% lower, thanks to a 2.6% drop in transport prices, a 0.7% drop in alcoholic beverages and tobacco and a 0.5% drop in energy costs.
Annual inflation was above 8% for seven consecutive months, which means that the average inflation for 2022 was +7.8%, according to the CSO, significantly higher than the 2.4% in 2021.
