The police of the French Côtes-d’Armor has opened a judicial investigation into the perpetrator of “a series of atrocities on rabbits” that were kept as pets. All attacks have been committed in four municipalities in Brittany since the end of August.
One of the municipalities is Minihy-Tréguier, where at least seven animals have been killed. The other three municipalities are Langoat, La Roche-Derrien and Coatreven.
The local police have placed a call for witnesses on his Facebook account. “15 cases have been identified and a total of about 100 animals have been beaten cold-blooded in 10 different rabbit breeds”, it is called.
It describes that since the end of August someone has been given access to the lofts and has opened the doors. Then the animals were beaten and left cold-blooded.
Jean-Yves Fenvarc’h, mayor of Minihy Tréguier, speaks of a psychosis caused by the gruesome facts.
“The victims,” he says, “are elderly people who keep the animals as a hobby or as a company.”
