In France the winter sports season is over. This measure is in effect immediately. All ski resorts in the country close on Sunday and remain for the rest of the season. Ski sport organizer Domaines Skiables de France reports this in Twitter on Sunday.
“The ski season ends today,” the statement reads. “Holidaymakers and professionals, we are all passionate about skiing, but we must first face the seriousness of the situation.”
Most ski resorts usualy close in April or early May depending on weather conditions. Closures come three weeks before the school holidays in France and Great Britain. That period is considered one of the busiest of the French winter sports season.
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced far-reaching measures for the entire country on Saturday evening. For example, cafes, shops, restaurants and cinemas must be closed. Measures have been taken to curb the contagious coronavirus.
In France, at least 4,400 people have been infected with the virus. More than ninety people died from the consequences.
