Walt Disney sells its interests in 21 American regional sports channels to Sinclair Broadcast. The deal involves paying around $ 10 billion.
These are parts that Disney acquired as a result of the merger with the lion’s share of 21st Century Fox, which previously involved more than $ 71 billion. Regulators only wanted to accept that deal if the regional sports channels were sold to another party. Disney already has the ESPN sports networks.
Sinclair Broadcast, by American standards up to now really no more than a local TV company, is a major player in the market for sports TV by buying. There were more interested people in the Disney section. Liberty Media from billionaire John Malone even enlisted the help of celebrities such as Will Smith, Serena Williams and Snoop Dogg. Malone appointed them as so-called content partners in his ultimately unsuccessful takeover attempt.
