Arran terrorizes the Majorca’s tourist industry

A

On the Spanish holiday island of Majorca, the extreme left-wing action group Arran inflicted vandalism on rental cars in protest against mass tourism on the island. The group posted videos on the internet showing that masked men were breaking two rental cars with hammers. They also use graffiti and punctured the tires. The police is investigating the case.

It is not the first time that Arran is responsible for such destruction. Earlier they also struck in Barcelona and Valencia. The group believes that the rental cars are polluting and symbolize the many tourists. Last month a large sign was placed in Barcelona with the text “Tourism kills the city”. In 2017, the group was aiming for a tourist bus, which was stopped and subsequently destroyed.

Tourism is an important source of income for Spain. Many Irish tourists also visit the southern European country.
