TikTok moves responsibility for privacy regulators in Europe from America to Dublin. The surveillance of the privacy of users in the European Economic Zone (EEA) and Switzerland is no longer done from afar, but in the area itself. That is the biggest change in the details of the app update today.
This morning the company briefly informed the market about this via its company blog. A new local team in Dublin oversees compliance with local privacy laws, based on the GPDR.
Thousands of people work for TikTok in Europe, 800 of whom work in the UK and Ireland. The company is opening local offices in all major markets.
The company is trying to break away from its Chinese background to a certain extent in order to grow internationally without hindrance. To that end, it recently appointed a top Disney executive as the new top executive and reportedly plans to move its headquarters outside of China.
