The company was criticized in 2017 after investigating of the privacy violation of users of Microsoft programs Windows Home and Pro. It was revealed that Microsoft was processing personal data unlawfully.
The AP has now asked the Irish privacy watchdog to investigate whether Microsoft is not collecting too much information and whether users have been sufficiently informed. Microsoft’s European headquarters are located in Ireland. European privacy legislation has been applicable since May 2018. The supervisor in the country where the company has its European headquarters has since been responsible for handling the investigation.
