Irish commissioner is leaving after breaking quarantine rules

I

The Irish Commissioner for trade is stepping down because of the violation of the rules of Coronation. Phil Hogan was under fire after attending a dinner on the west coast of Ireland last week with over 80 senior Irish officials. That dinner was organized a day after the tightening up of the coronation measures in Ireland.

The minister of Agriculture, a Supreme Court judge and the vice-president of the Irish Senate stepped up earlier, other politicians apologized. 60-year-old Hogan apologized on Monday, but he still didn’t want to hear about it.

In recent days, the Commissioner has been under increasing attack. The Irish Minister of Transport said in Irish media that the cabinet no longer had faith in him.

Hogan had one of the more important posts within the European Commission. Among other things, he dealt with a possible trade agreement between the European Union and Great Britain and the trade dispute between the EU and the United States.

He was also a member of the European Commission between 2014 and 2019, when he was responsible for Agriculture.
